SHIFT NC (Sexual Health Initiatives For Teens) (Legacy Partner)
SHIFT NC was an active part of the WISE Initiative from 2011-2017. It is currently a WISE Legacy Site. Prior to participating in WISE, SHIFT NC led a coalition of organizations that advocated for passage of the 2009 Healthy Youth Act, which requires schools to offer factually accurate instruction on contraception, STD/HIV prevention, and sexual violence prevention. After the law’s passage, SHIFT NC worked to help schools understand the requirements of the new law, bringing workshops and comprehensive curriculum training to school systems throughout the state. Through WISE, SHIFT NC focused on institutionalizing sex education in North Carolina public schools by helping schools with capacity assessment, policy review, cultural supports, training, and implementation-focused technical assistance.
